LISBOA

Despite modernization, Lisbon in many ways retains the air of a 19th-century city. The varinas (fish vendors) who roam the streets dressed in long black skirts still carry their wares in baskets on their heads. Vessels tie up at quays where the clang of trolley cars blends with ships’ horns. At dawn, fishing boats deposit their catch for noisy auction with Lisbon shop owners while the fish vendors wait to fill the baskets, they peddle through the streets

    • Take a day trip to Sintra, known for its fairytale-like palaces and beautiful gardens.
    • Train/Bus/Metro
    • Visit Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira.
    • Return to Lisbon in the evening.

    Sintra is one of the most urbanized and densely populated municipalities of Portugal. A major tourist destination famed for its picturesqueness, the municipality has several historic palaces, castles, scenic beaches, parks, and gardens. The area includes the Sintra-Cascais Nature Park through which the Sintra Mountains run. The historic centre of the Vila de Sintra is famous for its 19th-century Romanticist architecture, historic estates and villas, gardens, and royal palaces and castles, which resulted in the classification of the town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The region surrounding what today is Granada has been populated since at least 5500 BC. Archeological artifacts found in the city indicate that the site of the city, including the area around the present-day avenue of Gran Vía de Colón, was inhabited since the Bronze Age.

It was a center of learning and culture, producing famous scholars such as Maimonides, Averroes, Ibn Hazm, and Al-Zahrawi. It was conquered by the Christians in 1236 CE and became part of the Crown of Castile. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many examples of Moorish architecture, such as the Mezquita-Catedral, which was once the largest mosque in Europe
